About the Author

Sarah Gordon received her B.A. from Oberlin College in 1993 and her Ph.D. in United States and Women's History from Rutgers University in 2004. She has published articles in Beauty and Business: Commerce, Gender, and Culture in Modern America, edited by Philip Scranton (New York: Routledge, 2001), the Journal of Women’s History, and Material History Review. Gordon has taught at Rutgers and at SUNY Purchase College, teaching courses in U.S, public, and women's history, and has worked in a variety of public history contexts. She lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.
